The regime in Belarus amended the law “On the President of the Republic of Belarus” to include guarantees of immunity and financial bonuses for the dictator and his family. In the video, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Advisor for Interparliamentary Cooperation and Constitutional Reform, Anatoli Liabedzka, discusses the draft law “On the President” developed by the working group of the democratic forces’ Civil Constitutional Commission.
The project proposes alternative approaches to the presidency in Belarus. The draft law suggests that the president must annually declare their income and receive a limited salary. The law also provides for a single residence for the head of state and a mandatory health examination every year, the results of which should be publicly available. It also regulates the president’s media presence: according to the project, the president has the right to one public appearance per month.
