  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “Today is Grandparents’ Day, little-known yet so heartfelt”

    October 28, 2022

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “Today, we celebrate Grandparents’ Day, a little-known yet so heartfelt holiday. I am becoming more and more convinced that our grandparents are real superheroes.

Even with poor health, they find the strength to smile at their beloved grandchildren and feed us the most delicious pancakes.

Even with an unfairly low Belarusian pension, they manage to pamper their grandchildren with nice gifts like candies or warm hats.

Whether we eat well, dress warmly, like our job – all these things concern our superheroes more than their own well-being. And that's why it's so important to show care in return. For example, you might call your beloved grandparents when you have a work break. Stop by and visit them for tea and cake, for no special reason.

Discuss the news with your grandmother, help your grandfather with household chores. Bring them groceries from the store. Make sure they get a health check. Let the warmth they give us come back to them threefold.

In my family, grandparents always said: the best gift for us is to see our children and grandchildren happy. I think that's what your beloved relatives say, too.

And today I want to thank Belarusian grandparents for the love they have given to all of us, and for the wonderful people they have raised.

Let's tell them how much we love them. Let's thank them for caring by showing concern for them. Let's do something every day to give them the most coveted gift – make life in Belarus happy for both grandparents and all of their grandchildren.”
