  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya at the Munich Security Conference: “Belarus must leave the CSTO and Union State”

    February 18, 2023

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “I believe democratic changes in Belarus will become the best reinforcement for Ukraine's victory. Today I want to share our vision of changes in Belarus:

    1. Belarus withdraws from the Union State with Russia. After February 24, we see no prospects in partnership with the Russian Federation. All agreements between the Lukashenka regime and Russia, signed after the 2020 elections, must be declared invalid. All economic deals with Russia should be reviewed in terms of their compatibility with our national interests.

    2. Belarus withdraws from the Collective Security Treaty Organization and military alliance with Russia. We must not be in the same military alliance with an aggressor. At the moment, Russia is conducting a hybrid occupation of Belarus.

    3. Belarus normalizes relations with its other neighbors and begins wide regional cooperation, especially with Ukraine, Poland, and the Baltic states.

    4. Belarus seeks to expand cooperation with European institutions and EU member states. Belarus joins the Council of Europe. We develop a long-term strategy for cooperation with the EU.

    5. Belarus adopts a new constitution that will prevent the country from falling back into tyranny. We build democratic institutions to prevent abuse of power.

We need international support to achieve this. Therefore, I call for an international coalition in support of a democratic and independent Belarus.”
