  • Support for political prisoners and those released from imprisonment: two new ways to show solidarity

    January 26, 2022

Option 1: A Country to Live in” foundation’s program to become friends with a family of a specific political prisoner.

When a family member becomes a political prisoner, family expenses increase. Relatives have to pay the attorney’s fees and buy goods for the prison parcels. Moreover, keeping the family is complicated without one of the breadwinners. To help such families, the “A Country to Live in” foundation launched the Family friend solidarity program. Anyone (people and organizations regardless of nationality) can support a family of a political prisoner, even without having its contacts. In fact, the Family friend program means patronage and direct assistance to the family of a political prisoner.

    How does it work?

On the foundation's website, fill out a form and choose who you want to support and for how long (3, 6, 9, 12 months, or any other period). You make a settlement with the foundation and use it to safely transfer funds to the prisoner's family.

Option 2: Support the released Belarusians through the BYSOL foundation.

Some heroes of changes are already being released after their prison terms end, and they also need support. Many prisoners' health deteriorates: their eyesight fails, chronic diseases develop. Besides, imprisonment leads to psychological trauma.

Therefore, the BYSOL Foundation, in partnership with By_help, launched a program of comprehensive support for released prisoners. Depending on the needs of a particular person, the foundation can provide a one-off payment, visa assistance, medical or psychological support, and professional retraining.

    How does it work?

You can donate at the BYSOL website. The аoundation communicates with the released prisoners and provides them with the necessary assistance safely.

Since the foundation is designated as “extremist” by the Belarusian regime, Belarusians are recommended to use credit cards issued by foreign banks or PayPal, avoiding cards issued by Belarusian banks.
