  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s letter to Head of Wajda Film School Filip Marczewski

    August 22, 2022

    “Dear Filip,

With this letter, I would like to express my support to the Wajda School and Gdynia Film School that organized a special course for Belarusian filmmakers FILM BRIDGE – BELARUS in Poland in 2021-2022.

Our national culture is now in danger as the illegitimate regime in Belarus is destroying everything that belongs to independent art, truth and freedom. A great number of Belarusian cultural initiatives were stopped and organizations
liquidated. Many artists were repressed, put into prison or had to leave their country. Being an independent and honest artist, even a filmmaker, is a big risk in Belarus now.

In these hard times, you organized a directing and scriptwriting program for filmmakers from our country, Film Bridge – Belarus. It is a great opportunity for Belarusian directors and scriptwriters who can’t create their films at home to develop their projects and learn from outstanding Polish and international filmmakers. This program is a vivid example of Poland’s support for Belarusian culture, democracy and freedom.

I would like to thank the Wajda School, Gdynia Film School and Polish Film Institute for this initiative that helps our culture and cinema stay alive despite the dictatorial rule in Belarus. I hope that this program will continue in the future and that the ”film bridge” between Belarus and Poland will be strong.

    With best regards,
    Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya
    Leader of democratic Belarus”.
