  • Results of the Belarusian Anti-War Movement for June 10

    June 11, 2022

Any Belarusian can join the Movement and choose from numerous options to resist the war and Belarus' regime.

Here is an overview of the Movement on June 10.

    Support for Belarusians and Ukrainians

    • Latvian President Egils Levits reinforced Latvia's support for Belarusians' desire to become part of the European and democratic world. Latvia will continue imposing sanctions against the regime and will not stop supporting the Belarusians.
    • Since the beginning of the war the BYSOL Foundation has raised 500 thousand euros for Ukraine, purchased and sent to the war-zone more than 20 units of equipment, delivered humanitarian cargoes, and started a psychological support service for women.
    • Belarusians help Ukrainians save unique archives of ethnographic music recordings in Lviv.
    • Belarusians of Bydgoszcz, Poland, gathered to support the Kastus Kalinouski Regiment.
    • Svitlana Tikhanovska and her team, in cooperation with the union of former law enforcers BYPOL and the BYSOL Foundation, held a two-day working meeting with Belarus' local community activists.

    Resistance

    • Minsk partisans picketed to support political prisoner, philosopher Uladzimir Matskevich.
    • Belarusians of Vawkavysk continue to gather with the national flags of Belarus.

    Sabotage

    • The Hajun monitoring project tracked the movements of Russian troops in Belarus for June 9.
    • Hajun also reviewed the state propaganda coverage of the war in Ukraine for June 10. Propagandists discussed the alleged “drone attacks” from Ukraine and Ukrainian grain.

    Awareness campaign

    • The famous Belarusian actor Aliaksandr Zhdanovich, known to thousands of Belarusians as Malyavanych from the Kalyhanka children show, spoke in an interview about emigration, life in Georgia, the war in Ukraine, and his year away from the theater.
    • Deutsche Post issued stamps with portraits of Belarusian political prisoners.
    • Ukrainian writer Serhiy Borshchevsky spoke up for Belarusian culture, which might be removed from Ukrainian textbooks on foreign literature: “Lukashenka and his curators in Moscow would be glad to see Bykau removed from the school curriculum”.
    • Belarusian kickboxer Ivan Hanin put up his silver medal of the 2017 World Championship for a charity auction. The proceeds will be donated to Ukraine.
