The parties discussed the situation in Belarus and the recent brave act of Belarusian partisans in damaging the A-50 plane in the Machulishchy air base. Ms. Tsikhanouskaya noted that the act showed the vulnerability and weakness of the Lukashenka regime. The Belarusian leader also spoke about rail partisans and other Belarusians who help gather useful intelligence and support Ukraine.
Mr. Johnson and Ms. Tsikhanouskaya discussed assistance for Belarusian volunteers in Ukraine. The former Prime Minister is well-informed of the situation and knows how much Belarusians do to support Ukraine, as well as to protect their independence and move towards democratic change.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya urged Boris Johnson to keep Belarus on the international agenda so that it does not become a “consolation prize for Putin in this war”, as Belarus is extremely significant for Europe’s regional security.
Ms. Tsikhanouskaya also urged Mr. Johnson to take patronage over a political prisoner, to which he reacted very positively. At the end of the meeting, they issued a joint statement in support of Belarusians fighting for freedom.
