  • Angela Merkel’s podcast and other activities for the Day of Solidarity with Belarus

    February 06, 2021

The International Day of Solidarity with Belarus will be held tomorrow. Thousands of people join it from all over the world.

Angela Merkel spoke out about Belarus in her podcast

Legally elected officials and politicians are not afraid to report to the people. So does the Chancellor of Germany, who records a podcast every week. This time she touched on the topic of Belarus:

“Belarusians peacefully and with amazing steadfastness demonstrate opposition to electoral fraud, struggle for political changes and profound transformations in their country. However, the state leadership, led by Alyaksandr Lukashenka, knows only one response to peaceful demonstrations – violence. The authorities' calculation seems to be in the hope that the world will soon forget these brave people again. We must not allow that in any way”.

30-meter flag in the sky of Bialystok

The Belarusian Diaspora with the support of the “Belarus-2020” Foundation and the authorities of Bialystok raised a white-red-white flag in the sky over the city for the International Day of Solidarity with Belarus. They also organized a chain of solidarity with political prisoners, which was attended by one hundred people.

    Lithuania joins Solidarity Day

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda said that 28 municipalities of Lithuania are joining the International Day of Solidarity with Belarus. In Vilnius, the bridges across the Neris and the most striking architectural monuments will be illuminated with the colors of the national flag of Belarus.

    National Flag Procession in Israel

50 people gathered on the Tel Aviv waterfront to take part in a musical procession with the huge national flag of Belarus. It was organized by the movement “Israel for a Free Belarus”.

And here's what is planned tomorrow:

    – The Presidential Palace in Vilnius will be decorated with a light in the colors of the national flag of Belarus.

    – The tallest building in Warsaw will be illuminated in white-red-white colors. In addition, the national flag of Belarus will be raised above the city hall.

    – Moldova and Romania will stage Andrei Kureichik's play “Offended. Belarus” on the events in our country after August 9. From 7 to 22 February, a whole marathon of performances will be organized, which will be attended by 16 theatres in Romania and Moldova.

    – Campaign “6 million steps” in Lithuania, in which every citizen can take part.

    – Amnesty International campaign for the release of political prisoners.

In addition, a resource for counting participants in solidarity actions with Belarus – istandwithbelarus.org – has started its work. It works on the principle of the site “I walk”, which was used to count the participants of protests: it is enough to enter the site and click “I support”. The resource automatically determines the user's geolocation. Don't forget to talk about your actions these days and add the hashtag #standwithbelarus to social networks.
