  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met with the Rector of EHU

    On February 14, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya received the Rector of the European Humanities University, Prof. Sergei Ignatov. She congratulated the university on its 30th anniversary and noted the importance of EHU in educating professionals for the new Belarus and supporting civil society. Belarusian leader emphasized that many prominent people in politics, culture, and business are EHU graduates, and this demonstrates the university’s high standard.

    Rector shared the university's plans for 2022 and the following years. He told about helping repressed students and mentioned that the university enrolled about 100 expelled students from Belarus. Ignatov spoke about the new curricula and the plans to support Belarusian projects and initiatives. EHU Rector noted that the university seeks to accept more students and researchers who cannot continue their studies or work in Belarus.

    Ms. Tsikhanouskaya and Prof. Ignatov also discussed the possibility of establishing more programs, expanding the number of scholarships, and launching new projects at the premises of the university that would support Belarusian civil society. Ms. Tsikhanouskaya and the rector agreed to hold a joint conference in the second half of 2022 to mark the 30th anniversary of the institution and dedicate the conference to Francysk Skaryna.

    Ms. Tsikhanouskaya noted the importance of promoting Belarusian studies and developing programs in public administration and diplomacy programs. These spheres are needed now and will be demanded in the new Belarus. Leader of democratic Belarus drew attention to the need to employ not only researchers but also talented faculty members repressed in Belarus.
