  • Results of the Belarusian Anti-War Movement for May 4

    May 05, 2022

Any Belarusian can join the Movement and choose from numerous options to resist the war and Belarus’ regime.

Here is an overview of the Movement on May 4.

    Support for Ukrainians and Belarusians

    • The Viasna Human Rights Center sent 35 boxes of food and hygiene products as humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
    • The ŻYVI Foundation delivered aid to Ukrainians refugees in Bulgaria.
    • Pastor Taras Tsialkouski from Belarus won the Constitution Run in Warsaw on Polish Constitution Day. He dedicated his victory to the people of Belarus and Ukraine, who “bravely resist bloody dictators”. “Running from riot police in 2020 was not in vain,” wrote Tsialkouski on Instagram after the Run.
    • The BYSOL Foundation sent protection and tactical casualty care equipment to Ukraine.
    • The Center for Belarusian Solidarity provides assistance to all people fleeing repression in Belarus or war in Ukraine. This includes legal and psychological assistance, as well as finding temporary housing. Details in Russian.
    • Belarusians of London picketed the official residence of the British Prime Minister to demonstrate support for Ukraine.
    • Belarusians in Wroclaw, Poland, gathered at a square to honor the memory of Stanislau Shushkevich, the first leader of independent Belarus, who died on May 4. He made Belarus a neutral, nuclear-free country and returned the white-red-white flag and Pahonia emblem as the state symbols.

    Sabotage

    • The Hajun monitoring project released an operational summary for the day. The project's sources reported mostly equipment movements on the ground. No fighter jet flights or missile launches were documented.
    • Hajun reviewed the regime's propaganda coverage of the war in Ukraine. Propagandists kept accusing the US and other Western countries of provoking Russia into attacking Ukraine.

    Awareness campaign

    • Belsat made a piece on Belarusians' and Ukrainians' anti-war content on TikTok.
    • The Belarusian Association of Journalists received the UNESCO World Press Freedom Prize. This is the first time the award was given not to single journalist but to an entire organization.
    • Ecodom, Belarus' oldest environmental NGO, will hold an online conference on May 5 on the environmental safety of Ukraine during the war.
