  • Universal Jurisdiction: First Application against Belarusian Security Forces Filed in the Czech Republic

    The suspect is the chief of Hrodna riot police Viktar Kravtsevich. February 7 was decided to apply as on that day, the whole world participated in the International Day of Solidarity with Belarus.

    Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's adviser Alexander Dabravolski thanked the Czech Republic for accepting and arranging the treatment of the affected Belarusians. Now they will try to restore justice: “These citizens who beat and torture peaceful people consider themselves heroes. Soon their “heroism” will be appreciated in a universal jurisdiction. They will appear on Interpol lists and will not be able to disappear from there, because torture is a serious crime in all countries of the world.”

    Alexander Dabravolski also thanked Belarusians abroad for their help: “In 2020, we realized that our diaspora is powerful and coordinated. The efforts of Belarusians from the diaspora allow to gain not only moral support, but also to restore justice”.

    Now more than 10 applications are being prepared in the Czech Republic, 10 in Poland. Four people have already submitted documents in Lithuania and 10 more application sare being prepared. In addition, the Lithuanian Prosecutor General's Office has already initiated a criminal case under universal jurisdiction over the beating of Maksim Kharoshyn.
