  • Coordination Council to be reformed

    October 30, 2022

The Coordination Council was established by Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya in 2020 as a body that represents the Belarusian society for comprehensive dialogue with the authorities. It will be reformed to represent the views of civil society more broadly and fairly.

Following the establishment of the United Transitional Cabinet in August 2022, its members made the decision to reform the Coordination Council to cooperate with the Cabinet for better representation of the views of Belarusian civil society.

    • The reforms will include the increased number of CC members, abolished division into core and expanded membership, and an enhanced procedure for admitting new members.
    • The expected changes will allow the Coordination Council to hear the voices of different social groups and develop new solutions to urgent social and political problems.
    • The Council will obtain new functions, including approving strategic documents of the democratic forces and organizing open public debates.
    • The first meeting of the reshaped Coordination Council is scheduled for December 16, and the nomination process for new members of the Council is already underway. Every Belarusian can participate.
