  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya on Maryia Kalesnikava’s hospitalization

    November 30, 2022

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “For more than two years, people have been tortured in Belarusian prisons. I consider it my duty to speak, shout about it as loudly as I can – and not only about the people I know personally, but about everyone. Yesterday, when I learned that Maryia Kalesnikava was in intensive care, my heart clenched even more.

Maryia is a real leader and symbol of change for the whole of Belarus. But she's also my good friend. With her faith in our ability to stand against toughest challenges, she showed me how strong women can be, she made me believe in myself, she inspired me and everyone around me. Even from prison, Maryia has been trying hard to support us, telling us warm words, encouraging us, showing that she didn't give up, so neither should we.

I am hugging you, my dear, even at a distance. I wish you health and strength to get out of this nightmare. Your health is the most important thing for all of us right now.

From the bottom of my heart, I express my support for Maryia's family, her father Aliaksandr and sister Tatsiana Khomich, as well as Viktar Babaryka and his strong team”.
