  • Scholarships and internships for Belarusian students and assistance to civil society: Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya began her working visit to Romania

    November 28, 2022

Yesterday, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya arrived in Bucharest on a working visit at the invitation of Minister of Foreign Affairs Bogdan Aurescu. This is the first visit of the National Leader of Belarus to Romania.

With the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya discussed assistance to the Belarusian civil society. In particular, they agreed to renew the scholarships program for Belarusian students at Romanian universities starting 2023, as well as consider diplomacy and public administration internships for young Belarusians as training of personnel for the democratic forces and the new Belarus.

They talked about the Eastern Partnership and the role of Belarus, and the European Union programs. Ms. Tsikhanouskaya urged Romania to stick to the policy of non-recognition of Lukashenka and support for Belarusian civil society.

Svetlana Tikhanovskaya laid flowers at the monument to the victims of the 1989 revolution and visited the place where Ceaușescu spoke from the balcony before being booed by the rally participants.

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya is expected to meet with the Prime Minister, MPs of the Senate and lower house, and civil society representatives. Ms. Tsikhanouskaya will also deliver a speech at the university.

Today, the NATO summit begins in Romania. It is crucial that the issue of Belarus and Belarusian sovereignty is raised there.
