  • Results of the Belarusian Anti-War Movement for April 30

    May 01, 2022

Any Belarusian can join the Movement and choose from numerous options to resist the war and Belarus’ regime.

Here is an overview of the Movement on April 30.

    Support for Ukrainians and Belarusians

    • The democratic forces started consultations with the Council of Europe to establish practical cooperation.
    • Belarusians in Edinburgh marched to protest against the war and to support Ukraine.
    • Belarusians of Szczecin, Poland, rallied to support Belarusians within the country and draw attention to the Orwellianism going on in Belarus.
    • Belarusian Sports Solidarity Foundation held Chess Solidarity Cup, a charity chess tournament. All proceeds will be donated to Ohmatdyt, Ukraine's biggest children's hospital.
    • In addition to meeting officials at the highest level, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya gave several interviews to popular American TV channels as part of her visit to the US. In an interview to Sky News, Ms. Tsikhanouskaya expressed support for the Ukrainian government and called on all countries to help Ukraine in the global war of democracy against dictatorship.
    • In the US, the national leader of Belarus also provided evidence of the regime's involvement in the war in Ukraine: numerous proof of missile launches from the Belarusian territory and the movement of Russian equipment.
    • A band of Belarusians, Ukrainians, and Americans released an album of traditional war songs.
    • The Center for Belarusian Solidarity obtained detailed data from the Office for Foreigners on the number of Belarusians living in Poland. CBS presented a report on how often residence permits, visas, and international protection were granted to citizens of Belarus. In the four months of 2022, Belarusians were granted more than 58,000 visas. Since 2020, Belarusians have been the nation most frequently applying for international protection.

    Sabotage

    • The Hajun monitoring project released an operational summary of the movements of Russian troops on April 30. The reported movements of Russian equipment were mostly related to military plane flights.
    • Hajun also reviewed the Belarusian state propaganda coverage of the war in Ukraine. The propagandists have been equivocating on the reasons for the Western assistance to Ukraine. They tried to shift the attention from the real one, aid, to conspiracy theories, saying the West allegedly wants to exhaust Russia.

    Awareness campaign

    • The Workers' Movement representative spoke on repressions and dismissals at Belarusian Railway, as well as on the “rail war” waged by partisans and railway workers.
    • The Honest People initiative's new guide explains how to dispute with people from toxic communities exposed to TV propaganda.
