  • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Office addressed Belarusians in Ukraine and those planning to visit Ukraine

    February 15, 2022

    In view of possible Russian military actions, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's Office recommends Belarusians who are in Ukraine or are considering a visit to Ukraine to:

    – temporarily abstain from traveling to Ukraine. Numerous cases of Belarusians detained at frontier posts and airports have been reported. Unfortunately, the Office cannot influence the decisions of the Border Guard Service of Ukraine;

    – if you represent a Belarusian business, media, or NGO based in Kyiv or Chernihiv, we recommend that you consider temporarily relocating to Western Ukraine, for example, to Lviv, where a number of Belarusian organizations are based, and the city administration might assist you;

    – consider temporary relocation to the countries of the Schengen area / European Union or Georgia, where there are already a large number of relocated Belarusians. For visas, contact the consulates of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, or other countries, as they operate normally yet;

    – follow the advice of local authorities, verify information, do not be misled by misinformation.

    The Office of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya is in touch with the government of Ukraine on the issues of Ukraine-based Belarusians. The Office follows the situation and will promptly publish it on official channels if more information is provided.
