  • The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova voted to establish the group For a Democratic Belarus

    October 21, 2022

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's Representative for the Constitutional Reform and Parliamentary Cooperation was present at the voting in the Moldovan Parliament on October 20. The decision followed an hour and a half of debates. Communist and Socialist MPs left the hall in protest against its adoption.

Anatoli Liabedzka: “The established group includes 20 people, with the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Mihai Popșoi and Doina Gherman among them. The group is headed by Marina Morozova. Moldova had been supporting Lukashenka for a long time, but today's vote left this support in the past. From now on, Moldova stands by democratic Belarus. This is the final delegitimization of Lukashenka and the legal recognition of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya as the national leader of Belarus”.

Anatoli Liabedzka notes that the creation of the group For a Democratic Belarus provoked a sharp reaction from the diplomatic mission in Chisinau: “The ambassador nervously stomped his feet and even threatened to break off diplomatic relations in case the deputy group For a Democratic Belarus was legitimized”.

Today, Anatoli Liabedzka will hold meetings with the MPs who have joined the group.
