Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “Today marks one thousand days since the unlawful detention of Siarhei. One thousand days where I am certain my beloved husband is much stronger than he ever thought he could be. And every day of those thousand, I miss him, as thousands of Belarusians miss their loved ones. The release of political prisoners is the issue that’s on our minds when we go to sleep and wake up.
Together with Volha Harbunova and the United Transitional Cabinet, we have a strategy to propose to all our partners. The first step towards dialogue the regime could take is the release of political prisoners who need to be set free for humanitarian reasons. For some people, every new day in prison is literally a matter of life and death.
I know that my husband will not be among those to be released first. Siarhei knows this too. But that does not mean we should back down. On the contrary, that means we must go all the way on the path to the freedom of our loved ones and the freedom of our country.”
