  • Send a letter to political prisoners. The story of three heroes of change

    January 30, 2021

Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya: “January 30 is the birthday of three brave people in Belarus. And they are all in prison. I'll tell you about each of them.

The first hero is Raman Hvazdziolka from Brest. He proposed to his girlfriend, Anna, on October 18. Two days later, they came for him with charges of participation in mass rioting on August 10. He has spent the last three months behind bars. During this time, Raman managed to hold a marriage ceremony with Anna right in the detention center.

“It was my idea. I wanted to support him. Roma has no relatives, only mom, but their relationship is not best. And I said that I would try to have the ceremony in the pre-trial detention center. It turns out that I will be the wife of a political prisoner. I want to hope for the best, but I can see what is happening around. If Raman is given a sentence — well then. We'll have to wait,” Anna shared with Nasha Niva.

The second hero is Volha Klaskouskaya, a former journalist of Narodnaya Volya. She was detained in October. She is accused of blocking roads in the Serebryanka district. After her arrest, Volha was hospitalized, where doctors diagnosed a concussion. The security forces did not allow her to recover and took her to the pre-trial detention center.

“Her blood pressure began to fluctuate, and her gastrointestinal disease worsened, her legs got swollen. She holds on and writes that everything will be fine,” said Volha Klaskouskaya's mother. In December, the “court” considered Olga the coordinator of the action and sentenced her to two years in prison, although there was no evidence of guilt.

You all know the story of the third hero Eduard Babaryka — this man is imprisoned for becoming the head of the headquarters of his father Viktar. For this, he has been held captive for more than seven months.

They met their birthdays behind bars away from their relatives because they wanted to change Belarus for the better. Let's congratulate them and write warm wishes to them. They are our heroes, and they should know that we are waiting for them to return home.
