  • The results of the work of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Office for the week of March 8-14

    Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya has completed the working visits to Switzerland, Portugal, and Finland. She held the meetings with the representatives of the UN, the Swiss Government, and Parliament. During the meetings, they next issues were discussed: organization of negotiations in Belarus with international mediation, creation of an international investigation mechanism under the auspices of the UN, a comprehensive package of EU assistance to Belarus, the 4th package of sanctions, and the search for assets of Lukashenka’s accomplices abroad.

    The head of the Tsikhanouskaya’s Cabinet, Valery Kavaleuski, has made working visits to Brussels, Berlin and Bucharest, and is preparing for visits to Vienna and Ljubljana. During consultations with the governments and parliaments of the countries, Kavaleuski discussed the coordination of efforts within the EU and in the context of the transatlantic partnership, including the United States, Great Britain and Canada, as well as in the OSCE, the Council of Europe, and the UN.

    Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya had calls with Canada's Foreign Minister Marc Garneau and the U.S. Department of State Counselor Derek Chollet. Ms. Tsikhanouskaya discussed with the politicians the assistance to Belarus civil society, putting pressure on the regime to release political prisoners, and possible visits of Ms. Tsikhanouskaya to the United States and Canada.

    Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met with Natallia Hersche's family, wrote letters to political prisoners, and addressed Ihar Bantser, Ihar Losik, and Dzmitry Furmanau, who are currently on hunger strike in prisons. She called on the UN, the EU and the US to support the political prisoners and consider individual sanctions against prison chiefs, judges, and prosecutors.

    On March 8, at the initiative of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, solidarity actions were held all around the world as a gesture of support with Belarusian women.

    Ms. Tsikhanouskaya held calls with the local communities about preparations for the Freedom Day on March 25.

    Ms. Tsikhanouskaya held an online meeting with the representatives of the united strike movement of Hrodna Azot, Naftan, and Belarusian Steel Works. They discussed the cooperation on strikes and independent trade unions.

    Representative for the Constitutional reform Anatoli Liabedzka presented a draft of the Constitution. The project is put up for public discussion, so that Belarusians can express their opinions. A conference to discuss the draft will be held on March 15, the Constitution Day.

    The volunteers of the Tsikhanouskaya Office continue the campaign “The City Belongs to Us“, dedicated to Freedom Day on March 25. Its goal is reclaiming districts, streets, and cities to Belarusians with the help of flags and other symbols.

    The Office's volunteers sent 300 spring-themed cards to the political prisoners and, on behalf of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, congratulated female political prisoners on the International Women’s Day.

    Tsikhanouskaya spoke about Belarus and Belarusians in an interview with Deutsche Welle, SRF, and RTS.

    Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya held working meetings with the representatives of the Coordination Council, the National Anti-Crisis Management, the HQs of Babaryka and Tsepkalo. The campaigns were discussed as a part of the overall strategy of the democratic forces.
