  • First week of the new year. Results of the work of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Office for the week of January 2-7

    – Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's New Year's address has garnered more than 650,000 total views in the official accounts alone. In addition, it was shared by the media.

    – Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya sent New Year greetings to the heads of 35 states and a number of international organizations who supported Belarus throughout 2022 and urged them to keep standing with Belarus in 2023.

    – Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya visited the Apostolic Nunciature in Vilnius and left a message in the book of condolences for former pope Benedict XVI.

    – Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Office and the United Transitional Cabinet representatives held several online meetings. They discussed the campaign to prevent the deployment of Belarusian troops in the war against Ukraine. Work on the united strategy of democratic forces for the transition period is underway.

    – Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Office appealed to international organizations to support the convicted trade union leaders and Viasna human rights defenders and demand their release. A number of international trade union organizations, the UN Human Rights Council, and national governments have responded to the appeal by releasing statements.

    – Advisor on Legal Affairs Kristina Rikhter assessed the draft laws regulating civil society prepared by the Lukashenka regime. The proposed “laws” severely restrict civil participation in decision-making and the activities of independent trade unions. The analytical paper was passed on to foreign diplomats.

    – Volunteers of the Office shared a piece on how each Belarusian can help the democracy movement. There are many ways to help from both within Belarus and abroad.

    – Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Advisor for the Constitutional Reform and Interparliamentary Cooperation Anatoli Liabedzka held meetings with the Chairman of the Belarus Group in the European Parliament Juozas Olekas, the co-chair of the group For Democratic Belarus in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Vadym Halaychuk, and Head of the Law and Democracy Center (Justice Hub for Belarus) Dainius Žalimas.

    Anatoli Liabedzka has arranged for a meeting at the end of February of the leaders and representatives of the parliamentary groups For Democratic Belarus in the European Parliament to commence joint activities of the network. Mr. Liabedzka and the European partners also agreed to start working on the Kalinowski conference in the European Parliament in June 2023.
