Today Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya called Svetlana Alexievich, the author of «Chernobyl prayer» and the only Belarusian writer who received the Nobel Prize.
Ms. Tsikhanouskaya discussed with Ms. Alexievich the anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster and the current situation in Belarus, which could be described as political Chernobyl. Much has been said about aid to repressed Belarusians, mass trials of political prisoners, and the regime’s latest statements. Svetlana Alexievich spoke about her health and how the German authorities are supporting her. Ms. Alexievich shared on the progress of work on a new book and thanked Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya for her work, wishing strength, confidence, and optimism.
This was not the first talk between Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and Svetlana Alexievich since they met in Berlin in December 2020.
