  • Work with the United Transitional Cabinet, first visit to Croatia, meeting with the renewed Coordination Council. Results of the work of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Office for January 23-28, 2023

    On January 27, the media reported the death of Belarusian volunteer Eduard Lobau, who fought in the war in Ukraine. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya honored his memory: “We will not forget Eduard Lobau. He will forever be in our hearts”.

    – On January 23-25, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya held a working visit to Warsaw. During the visit, representatives of the United Transitional Cabinet joined her to meet the presidents of Poland and Lithuania, as well as Poland’s Minister of the Interior, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Education, Minister of Finance, and Speaker of the Sejm. 

    In Warsaw, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya took part in the ceremonies organized by Poland on the occasion of the 160th anniversary of the Kastus Kalinowski Uprising and addressed the Polish Sejm, urging them to establish contacts with representatives of the United Transitional Cabinet, democratic parties, and civil society. She also attended the opening of the exhibition about political prisoner Andrzej Poczobut. 

    – Sviatlana Tihanouskaia held a two-day meeting of the United Transitional Cabinet. They discussed the results of recent work, strategic priorities of the Cabinet, its cooperation with other bodies of democratic forces, strategy for the release of political prisoners, and needs of Belarusians abroad. The decision was made to have representatives prepare reports before 6 months of the Cabinet's work. 

    – Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya held a meeting and welcomed the renewed Coordination Council, which has elected its new representatives and will soon commence work. 

    – Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya addressed Belarusians considering returning to Belarus: “I urge every Belarusian to remember: the regime cannot keep any promise and cannot guarantee anything. Do not believe the people who in 2022 alone detained 52 Belarusians who returned home. Take care of your safety”.

    – On January 26, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya held her first working visit to Croatia. During the visit, she met with the Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, Speaker of the Parliament, and Foreign Affairs Committee, as well as with the academic community, students, and Belarusian diaspora in Croatia. Ms. Tsikhanouskaya also laid a wreath on behalf of the Belarusian people at the eternal flame at the Monument to the Homeland. 

    – Kristina Rikhter, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Advisor on Legal Issues, spoke at a meeting of the PACE Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons. She noted the problems faced by Belarusians: legalization of stay, integration into society, as well as lack of access to medical or psychological assistance. The committee has appointed a special rapporteur to prepare a report on “Addressing the specific challenges faced by the Belarusians in exile”.

    – “How do we explain to a child the value of the Belarusian language and learn it ourselves?” Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Advisor Franak Viachorka and United Transitional Cabinet Representative for National Revival Alina Koushyk recorded a video address about the Belarusian language.

    – Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's Advisor for the Constitutional Reform and Interparliamentary Cooperation, Anatoli Liabedzka, recorded a video explaining the benefits of the Office’s interparliamentary work in Poland for Belarus.

    – The Office’s volunteer program’s Telegram channel released a monthly report about the volunteers’ help. You can support the program through its BYSOL fundraiser.

    – Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya gave interviews to CNBC (International media), Delfi (Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia), Gazeta Prawna (Poland), TVN-24 (Poland), Brestskaya Gazeta (Belarus).
