  • Results of the Belarusian Anti-War Movement for April 29

    April 30, 2022

Any Belarusian can join the Movement and choose from numerous options to resist the war and Belarus’ regime.

Here is an overview of the Movement on April 29.

    Support for Ukrainians and Belarusians

    • The dissidentby.com initiative supporting political prisoners will be providing assistance to Belarusians persecuted by the regime, including released political prisoners and closest relatives of prisoners, if they are yet behind bars. In particular, the initiative will be helping former prisoners find a job, as most employers are unwilling to hire them in view of the risks of persecution.
    • Belarusians of Bialystok, Poland, placed a huge banner in front of the Belarusian consulate with the regime's “record of achievement” from the beginning of the election campaign in 2020. More than 1,100 political prisoners, almost 40,000 people who served administrative arrest, at least 36,000 were forced to flee from Belarus, and more than 9,000,000 were deceived.
    • RFE/RL journalist Vira Hyrych, who was killed in a Russian missile attack on Kyiv, had been helping Belarusian colleagues find a safe harbor in Ukraine as Belarus was increasingly becoming a dangerous place for journalists, said RFE/RL editor Rikard Jozwiak.
    • The White Coats initiative of Belarusian medics offers help to women who suffered from violence during the war. Spravka.guide provides legal and other useful information, as well as free legal advice.
    • Belarusians of London rallied in support of Ukraine and against the war.
    • The DAR Initiative, with financial support from the Littouwin Lions Club and in partnership with Our House Center and Katsiaryna Pustavit, sent medicines to Ukrainian civilians and the military.
    • Pavel Latushka, head of the National Anti-Crisis Management, and Uladzimir Astapenka, deputy head, had a meeting with the Head of the National Security Bureau of Poland, Minister Paweł Soloch. Latushka talked about the intensification of repressions against Belarusians and the arrests of independent trade union leaders.

    Sabotage

    • The Hajun monitoring project released an operational summary of the movements of Russian troops on April 29.
    • Hajun verified the video showing a convoy of APCs allegedly heading toward the Polish border. The project confirmed that the video was recorded in Belarus, though emphasizing the military exercises that are still underway in the country and naming the used ranges.
    • Belarusians, Ukrainians, and Poles picketed the Belarusian embassy in Warsaw, demonstrating salt and buckwheat – in response to the regime's statements about the shortages and inflating prices in the countries bordering Belarus.

    Resistance

    • Belarusians continue using ribbons in the colors of Ukrainian and Belarusian national flags to protest against the war and the regime. Residents of Minsk and its outskirts hung them on trees in their districts.

    Awareness campaign

    • The new issue of Chestnaja Gazeta underground press outlet covers railway sabotage in Belarus, inflation, and sanctions against the regime, as well as repressions against doctors and other issues that state propaganda remains silent about.
