Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met with the President of Austria's National Council, Wolfgang Sobotka. This was the first meeting between the politicians. Ms. Tsikhanouskaya thanked the Austrian Parliament, embodied in the Speaker, for not recognizing the Lukashenko regime and supporting the democratic forces, maintaining parliamentary initiatives and adopting resolutions condemning the regime and its involvement in the war, as well as supporting the independence of democratic Belarus.
They discussed the following issues:
- internships for Belarusians to help them gain the necessary experience for future Belarus;
- a Friends of Belarus group in Parliament, which will address the Belarusian issue on a permanent basis.
Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya proposed that the Austrian Parliament consider adopting a resolution recognizing the KGB and GUBOPiK as criminal organizations supporting terrorism, as the Czech Parliament has already done.
She also invited the Speaker and the entire Austrian Parliament to join the Day of Solidarity with Belarus on March 25.
