  • Results of the Belarusian Anti-War Movement for April 27

    April 27, 2022

Any Belarusian can join the Movement and choose from numerous options to resist the war and Belarus’ regime.

Here is an overview of the Movement on April 27.

    Support for Ukrainians and Belarusians

    • After her visit to Germany, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya said that Germany will soon present an aid package for Belarusian students, media, as well as human rights and other initiatives. Germany will also continue funding the Deutsche Welle Belarusian program and provide a separate round of assistance to Belarus' independent trade unions, which are now under repression. The Berlin administration may establish a rehabilitation program for the children of political prisoners. In addition, Germany will facilitate accepting Belarusian refugees from Belarus and Ukraine.
    • An opinion poll showed that only 11% of Belarusians would approve the deployment of Belarusian troops in Ukraine. 85% oppose this idea. Read more.
    • The Global Labour University (GLU) voiced its support for free trade unions in Belarus, amidst the regime's crackdown on their leaders and primary units.
    • Volunteer medics of the Pirogov First Volunteer Mobile Hospital in Ukraine received 21 sets of equipment from the Belarusian diaspora in the Czech Republic. The PFVMH has already set off to eastern Ukraine on 26 vehicles, 9 of which were purchased and supplied by the BYSOL Foundation.
    • A Belarusian volunteer spoke on her assistance to Ukrainians in Bucha, the local network of volunteers, as well as her pacification in the Belarusian protests.
    • The Belarus Kastus Kalinouski Battalion thanked Belarusian volunteers for supplying food, medicines, first-aid kits, hygiene products, and other essential items.
    • Belarusians of Bialystok, Poland, held an action of solidarity with political prisoners. They sent more than 40 letters and postcards for Belarusians illegally held in prison.

    Sabotage

    • The Hajun monitoring project released an operational summary on the movements of Russian troops for the day.
    • Hajun also reviewed the regime's propaganda. Propagandists claimed that the war in Ukraine is being waged by Western countries to weaken Russia and promote its disintegration. “The whole world is at war against Russia” narratives allow them to justify both battlefield failures and the economic downturn caused by sanctions. That is why, instead of admitting that Russia started the war, propagandists talk about a “preemptive strike” to prevent others from starting the war.

    Awareness campaign

    • Head of the OST Cabinet Valery Kavaleuski explained why Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's Office is planning to establish a representative body in Kyiv, as well as named the potential recipients of the body's assistance. Mr. Kavaleuski also commented on the possibility of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and Volodymir Zelenskyy's meeting in the near future.
    • Belarusians keep designing, printing, and distributing leaflets and newspapers with honest information on the situation in Belarus and Ukraine to save other Belarusians from the influence of regime-controlled TV.
