  • Results of the Belarusian Anti-War Movement for May 6

    May 07, 2022

Any Belarusian can join the Movement and choose from numerous options to resist the war and Belarus' regime.

Here is an overview of the Movement on May 6.

    Support for Ukrainians and Belarusians

    • Belarusian Aliaksandra Gushcha, a renowned participant of women's marches and marches of people with disabilities, launched #ArtOborona, a project to support Ukrainians. Aliaksandra will be mailing postcards in exchange for donations for Ukraine.
    • Belarusian artist Xisha Angelova devoted a picture to Ukraine.
    • Chatham House conducted a new survey wave on the attitude of Belarusians to the war in Ukraine and its consequences for Belarus. The majority of Belarusians support Ukraine.
    • Belarusian car promo model Katrina D’york has been volunteering at Donation for Ukraine and holding fundraiser photoshoots to support the country.
    • Belarusians of the Prague Support Team sent equipment and gear to Belarusian volunteers defending Ukraine.

    Resistance

    • Belarusians in Vawkavysk held an action in support of Andrei Bialiauski, a TikTok blogger from Babruisk who had been detained by riot police.
    • The new guide from the Stop Propaganda initiative explains how to save older relatives from TV and regime propaganda.
    • Partisans in Minsk hung white-red-white ribbons across their district to demonstrate that the regime will never stamp out the partisan movement in Belarus.

    Sabotage

    • The Hajun project, which monitors the movements of Russian troops in Belarus, released an operational summary for the day. Apart from minor movements, the project’s sources reported missile launches. The threat of missile attacks on Ukraine from the territory of Belarus remains for at least another month. This is evidenced by another extension of the flights restriction zone over the south of Belarus.
    • Hajun also reviewed the Belarusian propaganda narratives about the war in Ukraine. On May 6, propagandists speculated about the causes of the war, stating that “Putin had to announce denazification because of Ukrainians’ online sabotage”.

    Awareness campaign

    • BYPOL’s new video tells the whole timeline of the regime's participation in the war in Ukraine on the side of Russia.
    • Regional stability can be reestablished only after Lukashenka's resignation: Pavel Latushka, head of the National Anti-Crisis Management, gave an interview to POLITICO and Wiadomosci.pl.
    • “Lukashenka is Putin's faithful dog”: Franak Viacorka gave an exclusive interview on the situation in Belarus.
    • Most, a Belarusian media outlet, told the stories of Belarusians living abroad and hosting Ukrainian refugees.
    • Belarusian pastor Viachaslau Hancharenka shared his view on the value of truth: “We must speak the truth even when darkness comes. Today, for truth you get trampled and punished. We must have a position: condemn the lawlessness that is happening. Not only in a foreign country, but also in our own country, in the whole world.”
    • The Honest People initiative explained the 14 signs of fascism, which have already become a reality for Belarus. Every agent of the totalitarian system bears responsibility for its actions, the initiative stressed.
