  • Results of the Belarusian Anti-War Movement for May 14

    May 15, 2022

Any Belarusian can join the Movement and choose from numerous options to resist the war and Belarus' regime.

Here is an overview of the Movement on May 14.

    Support for Ukrainians and Belarusians

    • Ludmila Kohler, vocalist of the Kolir Ukrainian band in Odesa, joined the Palianitsya project, which collects aid for the Ukrainian military. Prior to that, Ludmila has been cooperating with Partyzanka, a Belarusian initiative which provides humanitarian aid to Ukrainians. Partyzanka has helped Ludmila’s band organize a charity concert in support of Ukraine.
    • The Belarus Free Theater and Kastus Kalinouski Battalion agreed on humanitarian and cultural cooperation. The Free Theater will speak about Belarusian volunteers of the Kalinouski Battalion at international cultural venues and raise funds to support them.
    • The Belarusian Free Choir held its first benefit concert in Warsaw, which took place at St. Alexander's Church.
    • Yuliya Yukhno, an activist of the Supolka Association of Belarusians in Italy, met with Simona Bonafé, a MEP and Regional Secretary of the Democratic Party in Tuscany. They discussed creating a program to receive political refugees from Belarus, simplifying the process of obtaining residence permits and visas for them, as well as other initiatives to help Belarusians solve a number of significant issues upon arrival in Italy.
    • Belarusians in Bialystok, Poland, walked across the city under white-red-white umbrellas to support the Belarusan women who hold similar actions in Minsk and Odesa, risking their life and health.

     Sabotage

    • The Hajun monitoring project and Flagshtok media outlet claim that a large-scale reservist training may be announced in the Homiel Region of Belarus on June 22. A government procurement tender suggests that the local military commissariats of the region are looking for a company to arrange 3 meals daily for the military personnel for 10 days.

    Resistance

    • The regime in Belarus continues to persecute Christians for protesting against the war: on May 13, the court fined Catholic priest Andrzej Bulczak for $380, Christian Vision reports. The priest said he will pay, but to Ukraine.
    • Residents of Minsk distributed leaflets with anti-war messages.
    • Belarusians held a picket to thank Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya for her work.

    Awareness campaign

    • Belarusian human rights defender Tatsiana Hatsura-Yavorskaya, who fled from the persecution in Belarus to help Ukraine, gave an interview to Mediazona on her life in Ukraine and support for Ukrainians.
    • Zerkalo, an independent Belarusian media outlet, released an interview with Sergey Rebrov, a Ukrainian professional football player, who spoke about the genocide of Ukrainians and support from Belarusians, drawing a clear line between the regime and the decent people of Belarus.
