  • Results of the Belarusian Anti-War Movement for April 19

    April 20, 2022

Any Belarusian can join the Movement and choose from numerous options to resist the war and Belarus’ regime. Read the Manifest

Here is an overview of the Movement on April 19.

    Support for Ukrainians and Belarusians

    • Tsimur Mitskevich, 16, had been tortured by Lukashenka's security forces after participating in peaceful protests in August 2020. He ended up in a coma, while his mother died, unable to bear what was happening. The teenager then managed to escape from the hospital, where he was under surveillance by the security forces, and flee from Belarus. Now Tsimur is in the Belarus Kalinouski battalion, defending Ukraine.
    • Valery Kavaleuski and his team started a visit to Ukraine to negotiate a permanent democratic forces' representation in Kyiv. They will also deliver humanitarian aid for Belarusian volunteers defending Ukraine.
    • The Center of Belarusian Solidarity provides free assistance to Belarusians and Ukrainians, including legal, psychological support and help in locating temporary housing.
    • A Belarusian from Sweden donated his car to the Kalinouski battalion. The People's Embassy of Belarus in Sweden and Belarusians of Sweden organized an urgent fundraiser to purchase canned food, protein bars, and other necessary items. Belarusians managed to raise 20,000 Swedish krona in three days. The car and the food will be delivered to Ukraine this week.

    Sabotage

    • The Hajun project, which monitors the movements of Russian troops in Belarus, released an operational summary for April 19.
    • Also, the Hajun project reviewed the Belarusian propaganda coverage of the war in Ukraine for the day. A Lukashenka's MP called to “crack down” on the “Nazis” in Ukraine.

    Awareness campaign

    • Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's Representative Anatoli Liabedzka held his regular anti-war stream. Political analyst Valery Karbalevich and economist Yaraslau Ramanchuk joined it and talked about Lukashenka's blackmail, his PM's “dreams” of economic growth and the grim Belarusian reality.
    • Palina Brodzik, coordinator of the Free Belarus Center, gave an interview on the initiative's support for Belarusians and Ukrainians. Since the beginning of the war, the Center has evacuated more than 3.5 thousand people from Ukraine.
    • Ivonka Survilla, President of the Council (Rada) of the Belarusian Democratic Republic, addressed the Belarusian warriors fighting for Ukraine: “The victory of Ukraine is also important for the liberation of Belarus”.
    • As Orthodox Easter, celebrated by most Belarusians, approaches, the Honest People community urges Belarusians to use the occasion to share truthful information with their older relatives and teach them to use the Internet.
